Student Council

At Fleetdown, children are encouraged to develop the necessary skills to enable them to take responsibility for their school and to then contribute positively both to the school and wider community. The children in Year 6 are encouraged to apply for prefect roles which include the Head Boy and Head Girl team. Applications are short-listed by their Year 6 peers, with the final choice being made by staff at school.
The children will form a crucial part of the school’s learning council where they work with other children alongside senior staff to reflect on things that are working well and to discuss how we can make Fleetdown even better!

Welcome from the School Council

Welcome

Welcome! We are the School Council and thank you for clicking on our page. If you would like to find out more about us, then see below.

Who We Are

At the beginning of each year, children who would like to be a School Council representative have to make a short speech to the rest of the class. We then vote for the person we would like to be our School Councillor and they will attend meetings for the whole school year.

What We Do
We meet together to discuss issues we are facing at school and work with teachers and senior leaders to find solutions to these problems.
Some things our School Council have changed in the last academic year:
  • Contributed to our playground rules.
  • Made suggestions to the kitchen for their new lunch menu.
  • Given feedback on new resources such as the Chromebooks.
  • Made suggestions for new playground equipment.
  • Promoted and raised money during Mental Health Week to enable the school to have a sensory room.
  • Discussed how children learn best, feeding into how our teachers run lessons.
  • Put ideas forward for their memorable experiences each term.
  • Discussed and organised litter picking sessions with our Eco prefects.
  • Given ideas for attendance awards.
  • Contributed to school tours for special visitors.
